Description
The Sugar Dragon Dragon Fruit variety is a hybrid created by Paul Thomson in Southern California and called the S8 Hybrid.
This Dragon Fruit hybrid produces small half-pound to three-quarter pound oval-shaped fruit.
The external appearance of the Sugar Dragon fruit is red with tiny deep green, almost brown fins.
The flesh of the fruit is a bright red purplish color with a semi-firm texture that is very sweet. Some say it IS the sweetest of all dragon fruits!
The first fruit tested was in 2019 and had an average brix score of 18, but research states a mature plant can produce fruit with a brix score into the twenties.
The Sugar Dragons flowers are plentiful, very fragrant, and self-fertile. Pollen from the S8 Sugar Dragon is used in pollinating self-sterile varieties, and if known as a universal pollinator.
Plants that are shipped are rooted cuttings that have been well rooted and had new branches grown.
Length varies from 6-10″+ long. Randomly picked at time of shipping.
There is very little soil in the pot, to help with the rooting process to reduce chance of rot.
